The first two games on Sunday were in the consolation bracket and had no further effect on qualification past this event. Mexico was able to finish strong with an 84-54 win over the Dominican Republic in the 7th place game. Colombia is looking forward to getting a chance on a global stage while Puerto Rico will have to regroup from a disappointing tournament after the 5th place game that saw Colombia get the 76-65 win and the consolation championship.
Argentina was looking for their first medal in a decade in the bronze medal match and they went all out to get it. Macarena D’Urso helped them take the lead early, but they needed to go on a run late to force overtime. The game then went into double-overtime before Syla Swords led Canada to the 76-75 win. The gold medal game was delayed by the previous game, but the championship and an automatic spot in the World Cup were on the line. Brazil built an advantage in the third quarter, but Mikayla Blakes and the United States used a strong fourth quarter to get the 92-84 win. Damiris Dantas and Bella Nascimento led the defending champions, but their other three starters were limited by foul trouble and they did not have the depth to keep pace.
