Weekly Report #37

Asia

There was one complete series in Kazakhstan’s top division with Okzhetpes sweeping Caspiy in a Wednesday-Thursday matchup. The second pod of games was played in the second division in Schuchinsk with five days of action. Astana’s reserve team leads, sitting ahead of the second teams from Barsy Atyrau and Zhetisu while Tomiris is in the lead among senior teams. League newcomers AiRom did pick up their first win.

The week in South Korea started with a narrow Stars win over the Blue Minx on Wednesday. There was a big surprise on Friday when the last place S-Birds defeated first place Hana Bank. The Blue Minx won Saturday’s opener in overtime over BNK and then the Stars edged Woori Bank. The S-Birds continued their streak on Sunday with a win over BNK. The winner of Monday’s game would end the day in first place and it was the Stars who got past Hana Bank.

It was a quieter week in Lebanon, but there were still some big individual statlines. Rebecca Akl recorded an 11 point, 10 rebound, 12 assist triple-double, Aliyah Matharu had a 38 point game, and Chyna Cornwell grabbed 32 rebounds in an overtime win.

Tuesday was the final day of the tournament season in Saudi Arabia with the game for the championship closing out the schedule. Gabrielle Cooper had a 38 point, 21 rebound, 15 steal triple-double for Jeddah Athletes to leave Jeddah winless. Next, Taylor Jones had 38 points and 22 rebounds for Game Master, but Kwanza Murray had 39 points for Jeddah United in the win. Al Qadsiah would need a win by a big enough margin to flip the tiebreaker to win the championship, but Sara Dickey, who had not been leaned on as much as the other foreign players, delivered 36 points to seal an undefeated season for Al Ula.

Americas

Obras defeated Ferro on Thursday to sit alone in first place in Argentina’s South conference. Chanares remained undefeated in the North, defeating their closest competitor to extend their lead.

It was another one-series week in Mexico and Mineras got the home win on Saturday, but Mieleras earned the split on Sunday.

North West Tasmania

The 51st season of the league played in the small towns of Northwest Tasmania tipped off on Friday with three games. Sharna Thompson returned to her home state and had 40 points for the Somerset Heat, but they lost to the Devonport Warriors. Nikki Parker poured in 38 points for the Ulverstone Redhoppers in a decisive win over the Wynyard Wildcats. Millie Baker had 36 points for the Burnie Tigers, which opened up their title defense with a win over the Latrobe Demons. The Penguin Blues won Saturday’s game even though Rhonda Price had 21 rebounds for the Smithton Saints.

Around Europe

Adia Brisker had 37 points in a win in the Albania-Kosovo unified competition as her teammate Ja Harvey dished out 15 assists. The regular season is complete in the Central European league as Ruzomberok handed Hradec Kralove their first loss to leave the teams tied at the top of the standings. Polonia Warszawa did not bring their full team to Trutnov with no shot at the top four, handing out free wins including managing only 24 points when Barbora Subova led the hosts with 31 points.

Celje defeated Maribor to win the cup in Slovenia. The cup also concluded in Romania and Rapid defeated the other two top teams in the league to lift the trophy. Buducnost won the cup in Montenegro, but Zutorya Cook did have 32 points to send Sea Stars to the final against them. Ragusa defeated Zagreb to win the cup in Croatia. Koi Love had 30 points in a cup win in Switzerland. Gabriela Raimundo had a 13 point, 10 rebound, 12 assist triple-double in a cup win in Portugal. Destiny Littleton had 32 points in a cup loss in Israel while IImar’I Thomas had 33 points in the win in the other semifinal.

Chase for Promotion

Robyn Lee had 41 points in Turkey’s second division. Marta Garcia had 34 points in an easy win in Spain’s second division. Anysa Jordan had 31 points as the quarterfinals started in Romania’s second division. Benedetta Bocchetti had 30 points in a loss in Italy’s second division. Julie Tetart had 22 rebounds in France’s second division.

In Ukraine’s second division, Viktoriya Rozhkova had a 31 rebound game, Viktoriia Anisimova had a 30 point game, and Valeriia Kutsenko recorded a 25 point, 13 rebound, 12 assist triple-double. In Lithuania’s second division, Neringa Birietiene had a 30 point game in an overtime win, Lina Mikeleviciene had a 32 point game, and young Eva Kavaliauskaite recorded an 18 point, 13 rebound, 12 assist triple-double. In Iceland’s second division, Chloe Wilson had 29 rebounds while Emese Vida had 26 rebounds in a loss that saw Andrea Jovicevic score 39 points and Jada Smith score 30 points in the win.

Notable Individual Performances

The end of the double round-robin in Iceland included 36 points from Brittany Dinkins, 30 points from Isabella Sigurdardottir, and 38 points from Jada Guinn. Xenia Alifiorova had 30 points in Moldova. Olivia Wikstrom had 20 rebounds in the return to league play in Malta. Martha Burse had 34 points in Germany. Ester Liira had 21 rebounds in Estonia. Jovana Milakovic had 20 rebounds in the Bosnian league. In Belgium, Javyn Nicholson had 33 points and an overtime thriller saw Sam Van Buggenhout score 30 points in the win.

A battle in the Netherlands had Kiandra Browne score 30 points in the win while Quinta Van Schijndel had 33 points in the loss. Jaela Johnson had a 30 point game and Chermensa Van La Parra had a 31 point game. In Luxembourg, Shalonda Winton had 33 points in a win while Caileigh Walsh had 31 points in the loss and Nicole Torresani had 31 points in her game. A double-round week in Greece included a 16 assist effort from Maria Aftzi, 30 points each from her teammates Destiny Adams and Jade Loville in their other game, a 35 point game from Emma Ronsiek, and a 32 point game from Danni Williams. In Finland, Sara Puckett had 35 points and her teammate Jeanae Terry had a 17 point, 11 rebound, 12 assist triple-double while Tayanna Jones had 30 points in the loss and Annika Aarrejoki had 30 points in her game. In Belgium, Javyn Nicholson had 33 points and an overtime thriller saw Sam Van Buggenhout score 30 points in the win.
