The first game in this tournament was a rematch of the game that awarded Australia an automatic berth, but Japan looked ready to reverse that result. Their foes turned it around in the second half, using a fantastic fourth quarter to win 81-71. Canada was able to get their first win after a tough loss, pushing out their lead in the second half for a 75-53 win over Hungary. Turkey looked ready to continue the momentum from that game to close the day, but Argentina buckled down in the fourth quarter to escape with a 59-55 win.
