Americas

Ferro won the first game in the finals in Argentina on Sunday even though Florencia Chagas had 37 points for Obras.

The week in Brazil started on Tuesday with struggling Salvador putting up a fight for a while against Araraquara before losing. Cerrado defeated Maringa on Wednesday. There were two games on Thursday as Sampaio’s big second half got them past Mesquita while Juliana Souza’s 31 points ended up not being enough for Sao Jose in a loss to Campinas. Santo Andre rolled past Uninassau on Friday. Araraquara had a narrow win over Cerrado in the first game on Sunday and then Santo Andre had an easy win over Salvador. Sampaio won at Maringa on Monday.

There were two deciding games in the quarterfinals on Tuesday in Mexico. Aguascalientes shook off a surprise result in the last game to get the road win at Leon. Cancun also won on the road at San Luis Potosi. The semifinals started with games on Friday and Saturday in the same 2-1 format. Aguascalientes swept Cancun after a slower start in Game 2. Monterrey won their opener, but could not finish the job at home even with 35 points from Morgan Jones as Chihuahua earned the split with 37 points from Anete Steinberga and 18 assists from Yvonne Turner.

The finals in El Salvador started on Wednesday with Anisleidy Galindo grabbing 22 rebounds in San Salvador’s win. That left Salvadorenas needing a win on Friday at home to extend the series, but they could not get it done.

A busy weekend in Chile included a double-overtime thriller. Betsy Guilarte had 20 rebounds in a loss.

Australia

A busy week in NBL1 included Abbey Ellis pouring in 41 points for the Diamond Valley Eagles in a close loss. Imogen Rock had 30 points in a Dandenong Rangers loss and they finished the Tasmania road trip the next day by falling to the Northern Force, which got 32 points from Keely Froling. Stephanie Reid had a 30 point game for the Sandringham Sabres, Lil Dart had a 31 point game for the Eltham Wildcats, and Dallas Loughridge had a 31 point game for the Casey Cavaliers.

In the North conference, Courtney Woods had a 23 point, 12 rebound, 10 assist triple-double and just narrowly missed a second one for the Townsville Flames. Jessica McDowell-White nearly matched her with a 22 point, 11 rebound, 10 assist effort for the Southern Districts Spartans.

Jayda Clark had the highest scoring game in the West conference with 33 points for the Warwick Senators. Jaz Shelley had a 32 point, 12 steal game in the East conference with the Norths Bears.

The standout performance in Big V this week came in the middle division as Lana Hollingsworth had 39 points for the Melbourne University Black Angels.

The games in North West Tasmania were on Tuesday again this week as Devonport won at Penguin. Sharna Thompson had 32 points in Somerset’s win over Smithton. Mariah Payne had 30 points in Burnie’s easy win over Wynyard. Brydee McPherson had the highest scoring game with 34 points for Latrobe in a win over Ulverstone.

Kazakhstan

The bronze medal series started in Kazakhstan this weekend as Ertis welcomed Barsy Atyrau to Pavlodar for games on Friday and Saturday. The visitors got 38 points from Veronika Dmitrienko to win the opener, but the hosts bounced back to tie the series the next day.

Europe

Benfica won the deciding game on Thursday against Quinta Dos Lombos to win the championship in Portugal. Dudelange finished a sweep of Contern on Friday to win the championship in Luxembourg. Danielle Rodriguez had 36 points and Brittany Dinkins had a 25 point, 11 rebound, 11 assist triple-double to seal Njardvik’s last win in the finals in Iceland on Sunday to get past Haukar for the title. The British league championship game was on Sunday and Sheffield Hatters got the win over Caledonia Gladiators.

Chase for Promotion

Nyla Jean had 31 points for Kirklarali to force a deciding game against Turgutlu in Turkey’s second division playoffs for the other automatic spot. The last four teams hunting for a promotion spot in Spain’s second division met this weekend for the final stage. Celta defeated Ardoi in Sunday’s final after Melilla and Malaga were eliminated in Saturday’s semifinals. Both final series in Italy ended with deciding games on Sunday. Faenza prevailed on the road at Alpo and Marta Moscarella had 32 points to seal a home win for Costa Masnaga over San Giovanni Valdarno. Marija Vrdoljak had 35 points and Hana Vrancic had an 18 point, 11 rebound, 13 assist triple-double, but Pula’s win was not enough to overturn the deficit from their opening loss to Medvescak in their attempt to make the jump to Croatia’s top division.
