Weekly Report #51

Americas

League play in Brazil resumed on Wednesday when Sao Jose won at Uninassau. Mesquita fended off Araraquara in Thursday’s game. There were two games on Friday as Sao Jose dominated the second half in a win at Salvador and Sampaio defeated Santo Andre. Sunday’s game went to double-overtime before Uninassau could get the win at Maringa.

Chihuahua hosted their two games of the finals in Mexico on Tuesday and Wednesday with the chance to close out the series. They got 18 assists from Yvonne Turner in the first game, but Aguascalientes prevailed in a wild game. With their season on the line the next day, they were able to force a deciding game on Saturday. Aguascalientes did not end up getting much of a challenge, rolling to a win with 30 points from Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis while Zaay Green did lead Chihuahua with 30 points of her own.

The final weekend of the regular season in Chile included a 36 point effort from Alexis Poole. Sportiva Italiana was on the losing end of that game, but bounced back after getting 25 rebounds from Chyna Cornwell.

Australia

It was a busy week in NBL1, including the Tasmania rivalry game in the South conference that had Parker Hill grabbing 20 rebounds to secure the win for the Northern Force. Rebecca Pizzey had 26 rebounds in an overtime win for the Eltham Wildcats. Adrianna Smith had 36 points, but the Dandenong Rangers lost narrowly. Maddi Rocci had 34 points in a Keilor Thunder win.

Stacey Barr had 32 points to lead the East Perth Eagles to a win in the North conference. Sharn Hayward had a 32 point game as her Mandurah Magic teammate Mikayla Pivec had a 13 point, 11 rebound, 11 assist triple-double.

Jaz Shelley had the highest-scoring game in the East conference with 36 points in a Norths Bears win as Kasey Neubert had 21 rebounds in the loss for the Maitland Mustangs. Unique Thompson also reached the 21 rebound mark for the Albury Wodonga Bandits in a loss. Seehia Ridard had 30 points in an Inner West Bulls loss.

It was a double-round week in the Central conference and the big statlines came in Sunday games, highlighted by a 30 point, 10 rebound, 12 assist triple-double from Sam Simons for the Forestville Eagles. Annaliese Watkinson scored 30 points for the Eastern Mavericks and Tiahna Sears grabbed 20 rebounds for the Central Districts Lions.

Vivien Saad had a 24 rebound game in Big V’s middle division in a Craigieburn Eagles loss. In the lower division, Ma Tan Fung had 30 points to lead the Shepparton Gators to a win. The Wallan Panthers won a game with Ranika Guyton scoring 30 points and Emmie Gardiner grabbing 20 rebounds.

The week in North West Tasmania started with one game on Tuesday as Sharna Thompson had 40 points and Parker Hill had 20 rebounds in Somerset’s easy win over Devonport with the two players then facing off on different sides of the Tasmanian NBL1 rivalry game on Saturday. The rest of the games were on Friday, including Burnie’s win over Latrobe. Nikki Parker had 30 points in Ulverstone’s win over Wynyard. Ella Lee had 31 points to seal a win for Smithton after Ava McDonald had 36 points and Ellie Collins had 29 points, 15 rebounds, and 14 assists for Penguin.

Kazakhstan

The bronze medal series deciding game was on Monday and Ertis got the win over Barsy Atyrau at home in Pavlodar. A sweep was on in the championship series on that day as well. After close wins at home, Astana Tigers won decisively on the road in Kokshetau to end the series against Okzhetpes.

Europe

Leon opened the last playoffs series in Spain’s third division with a fairly sizable win over Alcorcon as the teams swap venues for next week’s game.
