The last promotion spot was decided in Spain’s third division on Saturday. Alcorcon trailed from the first leg, but worked hard to cut the deficit in the first half. Leon was able to limit the damage in the second half, losing by a small enough margin to prevail by five points.
The promotion from regional competitions to this level was also determined this week with sixteen teams divided into two sites with two groups each. Group play from Thursday to Saturday determined the winners and then the second-place teams at each site faced each other on Sunday for the last two spots. Cartagena hosted site A and Lucentum Alicante won Group 1 there. Group 2 went to a tiebreaker with three teams winning two games and Adareva prevailed. The home team had further heartbreak in the final game when they lost to Segovia. Cadiz hosted site B and Pozuelo needed a win in the final group game to win Group 3, doing so with a big fourth quarter. Hosts Xerez could have finished undefeated in Group 4, but a narrow closing loss still left them at the top of the tiebreaker. Stadium Casablanca won the final game to grab the other spot from the site.
