Weekly Report #54

Lebanon

The first two games of the finals were played this week with road teams winning both games. Alexis Prince had 20 rebounds on Friday, but Homenetmen lost the game to Riyadi. She had 32 points on Sunday to help them tie the series.

Americas

The quarterfinals in Brazil started on Thursday as Sampaio had an easy win at Maringa. Araraquara build a lead on Sao Jose in the second half to grab a win in the other series to start that day. Another series started on Saturday with Cerrado winning at Santo Andre. The last series started on Sunday and featured the first home win with Mesquita getting the better of Campinas. Juliana Souza had 33 points, but Sao Jose could not avoid elimination in the second game against Araraquara.

One quarterfinal series in Chile will not be completed until the middle of the upcoming week. The other side of the bracket started their semifinal series with games on Saturday and Sunday. Sportiva Italiana won both games at home so the University of Concepcion now battles elimination when they head home.

Australia

All of the NBL1 conferences were in action this weekend, including the South. Keely Froling had 34 points as the Northern Force kicked things off with a win. There were a number of overtime games as the Bendigo Braves got 36 points from Olivia Pollerd, but still lost. Dallas Loughridge had 38 points to help the Casey Cavaliers hold on and win.

Alyssa Brown had a 35 point effort in a Brisbane Capitals loss in the North conference. Nes’eye Parker-Williams had 30 points in a Northside Wizards win. Tiahna Sears had 21 rebounds in a Central Districts Lions win in the Central conference.

The West conference started off with fireworks in a pair of overtime games, including Makenna Marisa scoring 41 points to seal a Perry Lakes Hawks win. Darcee Garbin had 38 points for the Cockburn Cougars, which got the win over the Lakeside Lightning despite 31 points from Delanie Crawford. Jessie Edwards led them in the next game with 33 points and their second straight narrow win came at the expense of the Willetton Tigers, which got 34 points from Ruby Porter. Triple-doubles were also a story as Sarah Mortensen had 11 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 rebounds for the East Perth Eagles. Sierra Moore had 21 points, 16 rebounds, and 12 assists for the Goldfields Giants in a win, but they ended up on the other side of that the next day when Mikayla Pivec had 14 points, 15 rebounds, and 10 assists for the Mandurah Magic.

Seehia Ridard had games of 31 and 47 points for the Inner West Bulls in the East conference, but they could not win either time. The first effort came in a game where Callie Bourne grabbed 25 rebounds for the Canberra Nationals. Rebounds were the story elsewhere as Kasey Neubert collected 26 for the Maitland Mustangs. Unique Thompson had 20 rebounds in an Albury Wodonga Bandits win where Emily Lytle scored 32 points as Meg Jefferson scored 34 points in the loss for the Newcastle Falcons. Shyla Heal had a 32 point game in a Bankstown Bruins win.

Ranika Guyton had the standout performance in Big V this weekend with 45 points to lead the Wallan Panthers to a win. The other big game was also in the bottom division as Lakota Beatty had 30 points in a Coburg Giants win.

Games were on Tuesday again in North West Tasmania. Sharna Thompson had 40 points in Somerset’s win over Ulverstone. Brydee McPherson had 39 points for Latrobe in their win over Wynyard, which got 22 rebounds from Kiara Stewart.
