Centrobasket Semifinals

Consolation

The first games on Friday were in this bracket as teams were completing their tournament and playing for placement. The Bahamas did not have one of their star players available, reducing some of the depth advantage that they enjoyed over Guyana. Ruth Adams had another big game, helping Guyana control the second half to win 66-57. Kiyomi McMiller led Nicaragua again, but this time was joined by Leisha Romero, which helped them build a lead in the second half on their way to a 92-75 win over El Salvador.

Championship

The winners of these games would also earn spots in next year’s AmeriCup. Puerto Rico was expected to win this tournament again, but got quite the early test from the Dominican Republic. The ship looked to be righted by halftime, but Cesarina Capellan had her team looking for the upset in the third quarter. The favorites did dominate the fourth quarter to get the 90-80 win. Mexico had the better first half to close the day, but Natalie Kleeman-Day and the US Virgin Islands took the lead back in the third quarter. It was a close final quarter, but Mexico was able to get the edge late and win 65-62 to join Puerto Rico in earning a spot next summer already.
