All of the quarterfinals were played on Thursday and the first game was not close as the United rolled past Hungary 108-56. The next game was not much more competitive as France eliminated Han Xu and China 90-61. Belgium knew that it would be tough to defeat the hosts, but Emma Meesseman was hoping to lead them to glory one more time as they had an early lead. Germany shot well to stay in the game early and did not slow down, continuing to build their lead on the way to a 93-74 win. Australia was down three players for the last game of the day and tried to keep up with Spain’s firepower. They had their moments and did make it closer again in the second half, but ended up falling 89-66 to end their medal streak.
