Americas

In Puerto Rico, action continued on Tuesday as Hatillo kept Yauco in last place and then Santurce stayed in the lead with a win over Caguas. Moca got back to winning ways on Wednesday by defeating Juana Diaz and Manati finished strong in a win over Isabela. On Thursday, Santurce won again, this time over Ponce, and after neither team had success on offense in the first half, Carolina eventually edged Hatillo. Yauco lost again on Friday, this time to Moca and Manati won at Juana Diaz. Two of the scheduled games for Saturday were played as Santurce’s run continued with a win over their rivals Carolina and Manati breezed past Juana Diaz again. Yauco’s latest loss was to Moca on Sunday. Isabela defeated Hatillo first on Monday and then Carolina escaped with a win over Caguas.

There were five games in El Salvador this week, starting with San Salvador’s win over Santa Tecla on Wednesday. Capitalinas continued to look for the first win after falling to Salvadorenas on Thursday. Anisleidy Galindo had 31 points for San Salvador in a win over Santa Ana on Friday. Yenifer Jimenez did a little bit of everything for Ahuachapan on Saturday in a win over Santa Tecla, recording a 19 point, 13 rebound, 11 assist triple-double. Vanessa Hernandez had 12 steals on Sunday for Santa Ana in a win over Capitalinas.

There are 18 teams in Argentina’s league this season divided into two regional conferences. Opening weekend play included a 21 rebound game from Jac Soto.

New Zealand

Another round started on Friday with the Whai shutting out the Hoiho in two quarters of the reserve game, including scoring enough points in the fourth quarter to win on that amount alone. They built a lead before halftime of the main game to finish the sweep. On Saturday, the Queens lost the reserve game, but they defeated the Pouakai in the main game. The Hoiho swept both games against the Kahu on Sunday.

Around Europe

More leagues in Europe started their seasons this week, including competitions in Slovenia, Norway, Greece, Estonia, Croatia, and Albania. The regular season started in Portugal and Schekinah Bimpa had a 20 rebound effort. An overtime shootout had Maddie Burke scoring 36 points to secure a win after Micaela Kelly had 31 points in the loss. Kosovo’s opening weekend included a 22 rebound game from Nija Collier and a 32 point game from Audrey Jennings. There were also big games in Iceland’s first week as Marta Hermida had 30 points and Sara Hinriksdottir had 37 points. Merisa Lapo had 21 rebounds during the opening weekend of the Bosnian league. Overtime was needed to award the Super Cup in Cyprus on Sunday, but AEL Limassol eventually prevailed over ETHA Engomis. A cup competition also started in Malta.

Chase for Promotion

Any concerns that the move to two foreigners would prevent big statlines in Turkey’s second division were proven unfounded after Dre’Una Edwards put on a clinic with 52 points and 20 rebounds while Jerkaila Jordan had 41 points in a loss. After the second division started play in Spain last weekend, the third division joined the party this weekend. Italy’s second division also opened play. Iceland’s second division’s opening weekend included a 34 point game from Lee’Sha Henry in a loss after Jessica Tomasetti had a 22 point, 15 rebound, 13 assist triple-double for the opposition and a 30 point game for Leilani Kapinus.

Notable Individual Performances

Julia Chadwick had a 31 point game in Switzerland. Tiffany Brown had a 30 point game in Sweden. Jovana Popovic had another incredible game in Serbia with 44 points. Lauryn Taylor grabbed 23 rebounds in Romania. In the Netherlands, Jamailah Adams had a 12 point, 16 rebound, 10 assist triple-double and an overtime thriller had Lotte Van Kruistum score 30 points in the win while Keona Douwstra had 30 points in the loss with her college debut pushed back a year. Naomi Davenport had a 31 point game in Luxembourg. Josefine Haabegaard had a 31 point game in Denmark. Eliska Brejchova had a 32 point game in the Czech League.
