The finals in Puerto Rico started on Tuesday with Moca now holding homecourt advantage. They took care of business in the opener, but Manati evened the series at home on Thursday. Manati took that momentum to the next game on Saturday, getting the first road win. They were able to move within a game of the championship on Monday when they returned home to pick up a third straight win.
The playoffs started in El Salvador with the semifinals this week. Top seed San Salvador swept Santa Tecla with wins on Wednesday and Friday. Santa Ana was looking for the seeding upset when Dairis Tornell scored 35 points in an overtime win on Thursday and then Ruth Aracena grabbed 20 rebounds to finish the sweep of Salvadorenas on Saturday.
It was another busy week in Argentina as all of the teams have reached double-digits in games played now and Sofia Acevedo had the highest scoring game with 31 points.
Alexus Johnson recorded an 18 point, 15 rebound, 10 assist triple-double as the regular season winds down in Chile.
New Zealand
The week of games started on Friday with the Hoiho winning the reserve game, but the Whai edged the main game. Lil Dart for 31 points between the two games for the Hoiho. Saturday’s reserve game went to overtime and the Pouakai lost to the Queens with their main lineup strategy leaving them with no bench players available. They did use a massive second half in the main game to get the win. The Kahu shut out the Hoiho in fourth quarter of the reserve game on Sunday to win, but lost the main game after a tough second half.
Asia
All the series in Japan were on a Saturday-Sunday schedule and every one of them ended with sweeps. Susan Okonkwo had a 22 rebound effort to help the Antelopes maintain the top spot after a sweep of the Magic. Also in the top group, the Red Wave swept the Wings, the Iris swept the Sunflowers, and the Sunshine Rabbits swept the Vickies. In the lower group, it was the Queen Bees over the Egrets, the Aranmare over the winless Rabbits, and the undefeated Cougars over the newcomers.
In Kazakhstan, it was just the finish of two series on Tuesday. Astana finished a sweep of Ertis and Turan bounced back from a big loss to salvage a split with Okzhetpes.
Around Europe
It was a quiet weekend across the continent with some leagues starting the international break already, but league play did begin in Malta. Olivia Wikstrom grabbed 21 rebounds there to secure a win for her team. A cup series started in Romania with Lauryn Taylor contributing 30 points and 23 rebounds to build an overwhelming lead for her team.
Chase for Promotion
Liatu King had the highest scoring game in Turkey’s second division with 33 points. Mama Doumbia had 30 points in Spain’s third division as the last remaining undefeated teams lost this weekend. Anysa Jordan had 37 points to finish a sweep in Romania’s second division that saw Targu Secuiesc win both games by a 99-32 scoreline. Kennedi Watkins had 30 points in Portugal’s second division while Charity Gallegos had 42 points in a loss. In Iceland’s second division, Leilani Kapinus had 33 points, Jessica Tomasetti recorded a 12 point, 15 rebound, 10 assist triple-double, Tanja Osk Brynjarsdottir had 32 points, and Emma Snaebjarnardottir had 33 points. Julie Tetart had 24 rebounds in France’s second division.
Notable Individual Performances
Stephanie Visscher had 38 points in a dramatic comeback in Sweden while Keylyn Filewich had 32 points. Mya Burns had 31 points in Portugal. Delaynie Byrne had a 30 point game in Montenegro. Maria Nikolaeva had 20 rebounds in Moldova. Gedvile Savostaite recorded a 11 point, 12 rebound, 10 steal triple-double in Lithuania. Maddie Sutton had a 31 point, 20 rebound, 10 assist triple-double in Iceland and Abby Beeman had 35 points. Tyia Singleton had 21 rebounds in Greece. Megan Mullings had 32 points in the British league. Kristen Spolyar had 32 points in Germany. Linda-Lotta Lehtoranta turned in a 15 point, 10 rebound, 11 assist triple-double in Finland. Brooke Flowers had 20 rebounds in Croatia. Pia Jurhar had 22 rebounds in Austria.
