The knockout rounds started on Tuesday with the four teams that finished up their group stages on Saturday. Winners in this round will at least qualify for the World Cup qualifying tournaments with the automatic bid in their sights. Losers will still play out the consolation bracket to determine who else makes a qualifying tournament. The next round will have a crossover between days of play so all of these teams will have to wait until Wednesday to find out their next opponents.
France was expected to roll in the first game and they put it out of reach early to finish a 83-61 win over Lithuania. The other game was much more competitive though and each team had their share of the lead. Italy looked to have the advantage in the fourth quarter, but Sevgi Uzun helped her team fight back and Turkey sent the game to overtime at the buzzer. It was a close extra period, but Italy was able to break a tie on their final possession and hold on to a 76-74 win to advance.
