The season opening event was played on Sunday with an even more special feel at Roland-Garros this year. Landes had swept both trophies that determine the participants last season, so their opponent was league runners-up Bourges this time. Bourges took the lead in the first quarter, but Landes grabbed it back by halftime. They also had the better start in the third quarter, getting the 66-53 win after losing in this game to start last season.

Full coverage of the cup will start when there are more first division teams participating. The first round started on Thursday when Monaco faced the lone top division side entering at this stage, the recently-promoted La Tronche Meylan. Julie Tetart had 26 points and Monaco controlled the first half for an easy win.
The rest of the games were on Saturday with second-division teams playing each other. Amali Montout had 21 points for Mondeville to help them hold off Marie-Berndette Mbuyama-Tshimanga and Rouen. Chloe Mace had 22 points for Feytiat in a win over Roche. Voiron defeated Geispolsheim, Montbrison’s lead held up against Nice, Trith edged Aulnoye, and Champagne fended off Saint-Amand.
