The season-opening event was in Madrid this year with the semifinals on Saturday and the final on Sunday. The draw made the first game an extremely interesting matchup with two teams expected to contend for trophies all season long facing each other immediately. Zaragoza had won this event last year, but Valencia won the playoffs to end the season and withstood one second half run to get the 84-73 win with Alexis Peterson leading the way. Yarden Garzon and Carla Brito made their professional debuts in the loss. Cup finalists Jairis were the in the second game hoping for a chance at revenge, but local team Leganes got a brilliant game from Aminata Sangare to get the 69-50 win. Marta Alsina made her professional debut in the loss. Sunday’s game was close in the first half, but Valencia built a lead in the second half for a 76-64 win over Leganes, winning the domestic trophy that eluded them last season.
