Africa Quarterfinals December 11th-12th

Classification Games

There were two games on Thursday to end the tournament for teams that were already out of contention. The first game was to avoid last place and to give one of the teams at least one win at the event. Friend’s took the lead early behind Djeneba Sangare and got the 72-54 victory over Gift Kaonga and Bravehearts. The game for ninth place was a group stage rematch as First Bank was the one third place team to miss out on the quarterfinals. Damaris Emedie and FAP avenged the earlier loss and got to end their tournament on a winning note 48-42.

Quarterfinals

The quarterfinals were on Friday, starting with a battle of teams from countries that are familiar with one another in the basketball context, meaning that there were a number of ties between players on both sides. Ferroviario had to battle Sporting de Luanda, but did continue their title defense with a 66-58 win. Aliyah Matharu and Ville de Dakar also advanced as an undefeated team, getting the 68-48 win over Kayana Traylor and REG. Italee Lucas and APR had the lead at halftime, but had to rally again in the fourth quarter for a 79-76 win over KPA. Hosts Al Ahly had the top seed, but did not really flex their muscle until the second half, getting a 98-55 win over CNSS.
