Thursday’s games would grant the winners spots in World Cup qualifying with teams still trying to win the championship and the automatic spot in the World Cup. The first game was between teams that were not considered locks to make it to this round and it turned out to be an excellent encounter. Uganda built up a lead two separate times, but South Sudan pushed back both times and used one more rally late to secure an impressive 69-68 win. Mali was able to take a big lead in the next game to get the 86-68 win over Mozambique. The reward for a group win for the hosts was a tough test in this round against Senegal and Ivory Coast looked to be in good position in the first half, but Senegal dominated the second half to win 66-60. Nigeria controlled the last game of the day, starting the second half by crushing any chances that Cameroon had for a comeback in an 83-47 win.
