Asia Cup 2025 Day 2

Division A

The expansion of global spots from four to six helped two teams more than anybody else as they started play in Monday’s opener. That change did not stop them from having another instant classic as Choi I-Saem and Park Ji-Hyun helped South Korea get a lead, but they just escaped Emme Shearer and New Zealand 78-76. Australia built a big lead early and Lebanon gave up quickly to lose 113-34 to start concentrating on the game that will matter most. That game will come against Philippines, which almost completed a dramatic comeback against Japan behind Jack Animam, but Maki Takada and company held on to an 85-82 win. Their game will determine who advances to World Cup qualifying and who must play for their spot in the division. Japan and Australia will play for the top spot in the group and a direct spot in the semifinals.
