On Saturday, Southside Melbourne made a definitive statement about their aspirations for the last playoff spot, leaving Geelong firmly in last place after a 94-52 result. Canberra made a bigger statement on Sunday even while shorthanded, getting a big game from Nyadiew Puoch to defeat Han Xu and Perth 77-74, a rare win for the bottom five against the top three. Townsville got the 83-69 win at Adelaide. The surprises for top teams continued too on Monday when Unique Thompson led Sydney past Isobel Borlase and Bendigo 89-78. The trio of upsets was complete on Tuesday when Mackenzie Holmes and Shyla Heal combined well in Geelong’s 88-71 win at Townsville.
