Centrobasket Finals

Saturday was the last day of games in the tournament, starting with the 7th place game with two teams in different places. The Bahamas had a disappointing tournament and was looking to end on a winning note. El Salvador knows that the competition will be even more difficult next summer and was trying to build momentum for that step up in level. Brandi Harvey-Carr had a good game, but Antonicia Moultrie and Valerie Nesbitt helped the Bahamas get the lead and win 80-65. The 5th place game ended up being excellent as Nicaragua led for nearly all of the game, but found themselves getting forced into overtime by a Guyana team that only played their bench for around two minutes. Kiyomi McMiller got help from Gissel Gamble to eventually secure the 92-87 home win as Anaya McDavid and Ava Thomas led Guyana in scoring while Joy Adams battled on the boards.

The bronze medal game also had the added prize of a spot in AmeriCup on the line. Esmery Martinez and the Dominican Republic put it out of reach early win a big first half lead. Imani Tate led the US Virgin Islands, which ended up losing 102-69. Mexico was looking to make a big breakthrough as they had the first quarter lead in the championship game. Puerto Rico had been through some tougher games in this tournament and they turned it around by halftime for a solid lead. Jackie Benitez and Zaida Gonzalez led them in scoring as they built up the margin on their way to the 82-68 win and a fifth consecutive title at this event.
