Consolation Bracket
The two games in the consolation bracket were up first on Friday as two teams were looking to grab the last spot in World Cup qualifying available in Europe. Lithuania had the chance to help their cause in the first game as they were facing a Czechia group that already sealed their spot. Egle Sventoraite helped them start well, but Czechia had the better of the rest of the game for an 81-76 win. That result opened up the door for Turkey, which would advance to World Cup qualifying with a win. Germany quickly shut down those hopes on their way to a 93-73 win, setting up an opener on Sunday that will award that qualifying place.

Semifinals
The first semifinal was between teams with memorable recent matchups, including three of the last six championship games. France’s new group looked ready to exorcise some demons by the middle of the game, but Awa Fam and Spain made their push in the second half, hanging on in dramatic fashion at the end for the 65-64 win. Italy’s quest to end their three-decade medal drought looked good early, but Belgium built up a lead and were ready to cruise. Italy had other ideas in the fourth quarter though and briefly took the lead before the defending champions got the 66-64 win and set up a championship game rematch.
