The knockout rounds started in EuroCup on Wednesday with five of the Round of 32 series getting underway. Each series will be two games with the scores combined to determine which team advances. The closest game in terms of seeding saw Kamile Nacickaite Van Der Horst and 17 seed Kibirkstis get the early advantage with an 87-70 win over 16 seed Magnolia Campobasso. 27 seed Sesto San Giovanni was also hoping to start well, but 6 seed Ferrol pulled away late for a solid 81-62 advantage. Sydney Taylor and 25 seed Zaglebie Sosnowiec had a big lead at halftime, but 8 seed Keltern was able to close the gap to 83-75. The four French teams ended up facing each other in this round and Villeneuve-d’Ascq started their title defense from the 10 seed, decisively defeating 23 seed Angers 95-67. Teams that dropped down from EuroLeague were automatically given the top four seeds, but 4 seed Gdynia’s halftime lead did not hold up and 29 seed Braine got the 80-73 win instead.
The rest of the series started on Thursday, including 11 seed Avenida bringing home a narrow advantage after an 81-78 win over Jessica Thomas and the 22 seed. 24 seed Panathinaikos leaned on their starters heavily, including Feyonda Fitzgerald, in an 85-76 win over 9 seed Crvena zvezda. Cukurova had a tough time in EuroLeague, but dropped down as the top seed with the chance for redemption. Rapid was the last team to make the cut, but started well at home before losing 82-78. Kennedy Todd-Williams and Javyn Nicholson helped 12 seed Mechelen hold on to a 72-66 win over 21 seed KP Brno. Dragana Stankovic and 13 seed Lublin have the largest lead of any team after cruising past 20 seed Brno 92-51.
It was the designated home game for Elitzur Ramla, but both games will be played in Greece, and the 31 seed’s early lead did not hold up as Eleanna Christinaki and 2 seed Olympiacos won 93-86 in their bid to avoid the same kind of upset that happened in this position last year. 3 seed Sopron was the last team to drop from EuroLeague, but is in the worst position now after battling shorthanded against 30 seed Besiktas, which had the trio of Mariella Fasoula, Nikolina Milic, and Sami Whitcomb put on a show for the 106-90 win. 18 seed Sleza Wroclaw has the smallest lead of any home winner after edging 15 seed Estudiantes 65-62. Lattes Montpellier earned the 5 seed with the strongest performance of any team in the group stage, but trail their fellow French team and 28 seed Charnay 63-55 courtesy of a big game from Shakayla Thomas. There was only one series with both teams coming from the same group and 26 seed Gernika was able to avenge their earlier defeats to 7 seed PEAC 62-43. The last game of the day was in Murcia and Alexis Prince helped 14 seed Athinaikos take the lead early, but 19 seed Jairis did close the gap to 80-75.
