After their loss the previous day, New Caledonia’s travel plans changed and they were unable to play the bronze medal game, leaving one game on Saturday for the gold medal. After an undefeated run in the group stage, Papua New Guinea looked ready to take it all in the first quarter. Fiji used a stifling defense in the second quarter to take the lead before halftime and then extended it with another dominant quarter. Papua New Guinea was able to find some rhythm on offense in the fourth quarter, but it was too late and they fell short 57-44.
