Turkish Cup

The eight teams who qualified for the cup started their tournament this week with home sites for the quarterfinals. Damiris Dantas and Botas had a healthy lead in Tuesday’s first quarterfinal, but Julie Vanloo and Cukurova had the better second half to prevail 81-78. Rennia Davis had a good game for Nesibe Aydin, but the depth of Fenerbahce was too much and they won 109-56. The other two quarterfinals were on Wednesday, starting with Crystal Dangerfield and Charli Collier trying to lead Kayseri, but losing to Astou Ndour and company 92-86. City rivals closed out the round and it was Galatasaray getting past Mariella Fasoula and Besiktas 77-68.

The remaining teams headed to Denizli for the remainder of the event with both semifinals being played on Friday. The first game was rematch of many recent battles for trophies and Cukurova had a surprise on their minds when they took the lead at halftime. Emma Meesseman and Fenerbahce controlled the second half though and won 84-66. The other game was close throughout as Galatasaray was trying to set up a big rivalry game, winning 66-64 after a big game from Elizabeth Williams. That championship game was on Sunday and Fenerbahce took the lead early, pulling away from Galatasaray late for an 86-66 win.
