Puerto Rico
Another week of games started on Monday with a Santurce win over Yauco and then Hatillo defeated Caguas. Isabela had a big early lead at Juana Diaz that ended up holding up for a win on Tuesday. On Wednesday, Carolina won at Moca and Yauco defeated Ponce. Manati was the last winless team in the league, but prevailed on Thursday against Hatillo. Juana Diaz had an incredible comeback to get a win over Caguas. The third game of the day would leave the winner in the early lead in the loss column and it was Santurce that got the victory over Isabela. There were no games on Friday, but Manati’s joy was short-lived after a loss to Hatillo on Saturday. Santurce settled back into a big tie at the top of the standings in the loss column after falling to Moca. Imani McGee-Stafford had a 31 point game for Juana Diaz, but Yauco just edged past them with a big second half. All teams finished the weekend with two or three losses overall after Caguas managed to grind out a win over Carolina on Sunday.
El Salvador
There are two seasons per year in El Salvador and the closing season started this weekend with all teams in action. A rematch of the opening season finals was the first game on Saturday and San Salvador defeated Salvadorenas again. Santa Ana defeated Ahuachapan in the first game on Sunday and then San Tecla defeated Capitalinas with 10 steals from Elianis Armenteros.
Our Coverage This Year
Leagues on the traditional calendar are starting their seasons soon and we will ramp up our coverage each week beyond this weekly column so this is a good time to introduce our plans for that time. As always, we will also cover all of the national team games that happen all year so this is about the coverage of club competitions. There is a large world of women’s basketball and we just cannot cover it all, but we try to provide information about large segments of it over the course of the year.
Competitions Covered Regularly
There be seven leagues within single countries that we will cover with separate articles for each round. Those leagues are the highest-level competitions in Australia, France, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Spain, and Turkey and are covered due to the level of basketball and the notability of players in those leagues. For the most part, those leagues play primarily on the weekend and each team plays one game per round. We will also cover all of the FIBA club competitions that are continental championships, including qualifying games. Some of those are tournaments that play their games in a short period of time while others are leagues that play a game per week over the course of the season.
Weekly Reports
Weekly reports will continue to be published, mostly on Mondays, with different levels of coverage of different leagues. In Europe, we will cover notable events in the leagues that are not covered in more detail, including standout statistical games. Countries that have multiple divisions where teams can earn promotion to a higher division will be covered if they have regular statistics, a clear path to promotion, and not too many player restrictions. There are also cross-national competitions that are not run by FIBA that will get some coverage. For other continents, we will cover some leagues in relatively high detail with the winners of each games and notable events included while other leagues will just have more notable events covered.
Roster Trackers
For the competitions covered regularly, we will have a single page that lists certain players on their rosters. Those players will include any players born in the United States or who went to school there to play basketball. Any players who have played in the WNBA or been drafted by a team will also be included as well as anyone who ends up signing a contract to play in the 2026 WNBA season. This tracker will be by competition and then team, but for those looking for an offseason play tracker that is WNBA-centric, we will be creating one sorted that way for a different website and will link it on this website’s roster tracker as well.
