Asia

There was no league play in Japan this week as the 92nd Empress’s Cup began its final round on Monday. The format changed slightly from previous seasons as the pro league teams did not play games during the end of last year and this phase had more rounds compressed together instead. As always, this is the championship of all of Japan so high school, college, and industrial teams also participate. Yurin Yamamoto was the day’s leading scorer with 38 points in a win for the pro league Koalas over an industrial team. Adamu Afodiya had 35 points and 20 rebounds in Hakuoh University’s win over a high school team. Ozurumba Goodness Ayomide had 35 points in a loss for Edogawa University and Yui Kuwahara recorded a 13 point, 17 rebound, 10 assist triple-double in a loss.

It was All Star weekend in South Korea with one league game played on Wednesday that saw Woori Bank defeat BNK. The All Star festivities were on Sunday and Lee So-Hee won both the skills and three-point competitions. Her team lost the game itself 100-89 as there was plenty of entertainment during the contest as well.

Guangdong continues to lead in China as teams are done with roughly half of the regular season. Chennedy Carter had the highest-scoring game of anyone again with 45 points while her teammate Ruthy Hebard turned in a 33 point effort later in the week. Kaela Davis had a 44 point game and Myisha Hines-Allen had a 21 rebound performance. A different post player’s arrival was all of the news in Sichuan, but Natasha Howard did have a 34 point game and Khaalia Hillsman had a 31 point game.

The first weekend of games was played in Taiwan with the traditional format of round-robin pods between the four teams. Cathay Life won all three of their games, but the rest of the teams split the games between them. Hsiao Yu-Wen had 20 rebounds in one of their wins.

Around Europe

There were still leagues taking the weekend off for the holiday, but there was plenty of action around the continent. It was cup quarterfinal weekend in Germany and Alexandra Wilke had 30 points to help her team advance. Jade Hill had 37 points in a cup loss in Austria to Klosterneuberg Duchess, which won again the next day to lift the trophy.

Chase for Promotion

The cup in Italy’s second division was contested at the same time as the top division tournament and two teams from Group B will meet in the upcoming final. The second half of the regular season started in Turkey’s second division and included a 21 rebound game from Liatu King. A busy weekend in Romania’s second division included a 33 point game from Marissa McDonald, a 30 point game from Adelina Nita, and a 33 point game from Mikyla Tolivert. In Portugal’s second division, Amhyia Moreland had 30 points. In Iceland’s second division, Jada Smith had 30 points and Jessica Tomasetti recorded a 19 point, 10 rebound, 11 assist triple-double.

Notable Individual Performances

In Romania, Annemarie Parau dished out 15 assists and JuJu Redmond had a 31 point game. Gabriela Raimundo recorded an 11 point, 12 rebound, 10 assist triple-double in Portugal. Martyna Petrenaite had 30 points in the Czech league. Ariel Hearn had 30 points in Israel. In Cyprus, Dajah Daniel had 36 points and 20 rebounds and Dontavia Waggoner had 30 points. Tanyia Gordon had 36 points in the Bosnian league.
