Weekly Report #33

Asia

League play resumed in Japan with all series on a Saturday-Sunday schedule. The Antelopes have a bigger lead at the top of the standings now after their sweep of the Wings being coupled with a Magic sweep of the Iris. The Red Wave are tied for second place after their sweep of the Vickies. Evelyn Mawuli had 31 points to help the Sunflowers manage a split with the Sunshine Rabbits. In the lower group, the Queen Bees swept the winless Rabbits. The Cougars remained in first place with a sweep of the Aranmare and the Koalas swept the Egrets.

There were two series in Kazakhstan on a Saturday-Sunday schedule this week. Okzhetpes stayed in second place by salvaging a split with Turan. Ertis sits right behind them, getting 21 rebounds from Kamazhay Otegenova to finish a sweep of last place Zhetisu.

The week in South Korea started with BNK edging Woori Bank on Wednesday. Kang Lee-Seul had 31 points on Friday in a Stars win over BNK. The Blue Minx edged Hana Bank in the first game on Saturday and then Woori Bank defeated the S-Birds. The struggles continued for Hana Bank on Sunday when they lost to the Stars, but they still have a big lead at the top of the standings. The Blue Minx won another close game on Monday against the S-Birds.

Shanxi is now tied with Guangdong at the top of the standings in China. Chennedy Carter had the highest scoring game with 44 points.

The second pod of games started in Taiwan this week with another round-robin. Cathay Life won all three games to build their lead as Taipower and Chunghwa Telecom are tied while Taiyuan Textile brings up the rear a game behind them. There were some big individual performances, including a 20 rebound effort from Osh Brown.

There were only four games in Lebanon this week, but there were standout individual performances like a 33 point effort from Italee Lucas.

Americas

A busy week in Argentina was highlighted by Stefania Lucero’s 31 point, 11 rebound, 10 steal triple-double. Obras is the only remaining undefeated team in the South while Chanares and Quimsa are undefeated in the North.

There are two national leagues in Mexico and the older one tipped off this weekend. After having a period of some growth, only five teams are competing this year so one team will have a bye each weekend with series featuring the same teams in the same location for the teams in action. Mieleras opened with a sweep of Dragonas while newcomers Puebla swept Toritas.

Around Europe

It was a full week of games in the unified competition featuring teams from Albania and Kosovo. Paige Powell had 32 points and Adrienne GodBold had 30 points to secure a win for their team. The double round-robin was completed in Slovakia with Ruzomberok and Piestanske Cajky finishing tied at the top of the standings. Michaela Safarikova had 32 points in a loss. The double round-robin in Luxembourg also concluded with Dudelange finishing undefeated. Esmeralda Skrijelj recorded a 10 point, 11 rebound, 13 assist triple-double and Adryana Quezada had 20 rebounds.

Chase for Promotion

The teams in Turkey’s second division took a pause from league play to have the top eight teams from the first half of the season contest the Federation Cup. The top two teams in the standings ended up meeting in the championship game and Zorlu Koleji Samsun defeated Kirklareli for the title. Dre’Una Edwards had 34 points in Sunday’s game after a 44 point, 24 rebound effort in Friday’s double-overtime semifinal win.

Celta handed Mallorca their first loss in Spain’s second division to leave the teams tied in the standings. Andjela Radovic dished out 17 assists in Serbia’s second division. Sienna Durr had 32 points in Portugal’s second division. Yvette Adriaans recorded a 15 point, 14 rebound, 13 assist triple-double in Iceland’s second division. Maja Manten had 20 rebounds in Germany’s second division. In France’s second division, Lou Bobst had 30 points and Julie Tetart had 24 rebounds.

Notable Individual Performances

Laure Margot had 35 points in Switzerland and her teammate Keira Robinson had 10 steals. Tarriyonna Gary had 30 points in Norway. Tea Trajkovska had 20 rebounds in North Macedonia. Hinke Houben had 21 rebounds in the Netherlands. Andjela Rondovic had 30 points in Montenegro. Shyanne Sellers had a 16 point, 11 rebound, 11 assist triple-double in Israel. Jeanae Terry had a 13 point, 14 rebound, 11 assist triple-double in Finland. Makayla Andrews had 32 points in a loss in Cyprus. Brittiney Seymour had 22 rebounds in the Bosnian league. Thalya Perez had 30 points in Belgium.

There were plenty of big statlines in Iceland, including another 31 points for Marta Hermida. Amandine Toi had 33 points in a win where Nabaweeyah McGill had 31 points in the loss. Brittany Dinkins had 34 points and her teammate Danielle Rodriguez had a 24 point, 10 rebound, 10 assist triple-double while Keishana Washington had 32 points on the losing side.
