Series in Japan’s upper group were all on a Saturday-Sunday format and the Antelopes are still firmly in the lead with a sweep of the Red Wave. The Sunshine Rabbits swept the Magic, including an overtime win in the first game. The Sunflowers swept the last place Vickies, getting 30 points in the first game from Ashten Prechtel. The Wings salvaged a split with the Iris, which is now all alone in second place. In the lower group, the Cougars swept the Queen Bees in a Friday-Saturday series. The two newest teams met with the Aranmare winning both games. The Koalas kept the Rabbits winless with another sweep.
There was one series completed in Kazakhstan on a Saturday-Sunday schedule that saw Okzhetpes sweep Barsy Atyrau.
Kim Dan-Bi started the week in South Korea with a 20 point, 11 rebound, 10 assist triple-double on Wednesday, but Woori Bank still lost to the Stars. Hana Bank won Friday’s game over BNK. The Stars won Saturday’s first game against the Blue Minx and then Kim Dan-Bi had 10 points, 12 rebounds, and 12 assists in Woori Bank’s win over the Blue Minx. Sunday’s game between first place and last place went as expected with Hana Bank breezing past the S-Birds. The Stars finished a great week with a win over BNK on Monday.
The regular season ended in China and Shanxi will be the top seed when the playoffs begin. Chennedy Carter had the highest-scoring game with 43 points in a contest that saw Wang Xuemeng score 30 points for the opposition and her teammate Ruthy Hebard grabbed 20 rebounds in another game. Te’a Cooper had games of 32 and 39 points with the first also featuring a 21 point, 10 rebound, 10 assist triple-double from Myisha Hines-Allen. Aisha Sheppard had a 33 point game, Natasha Howard had a 37 point game, and Kaela Davis had a 38 point game while Phillipina Kyei had the most rebounds in a game with 21.
There was another pod of games in Taiwan this week with teams playing Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Cathay Life swept their games to increase their overall lead in the standings to four games, including getting 21 rebounds in a game from Hsiao Yu-Wen. Chunghwa Telecom won two games and Taiyuan Textile won one to move into a tie with Taipower.
Kennedi Williams had the highest scoring game in Lebanon this week with 30 points while Chyna Cornwell grabbed 26 rebounds in a game. Amar Mansour had a 10 point, 12 rebound, 10 assist tripled-double, something Olesia Malashenko also accomplished with 24 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists.
It was the opening weekend in Saudi Arabia with the six teams all playing games on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Unlike last year’s extended league format, this competition is in more of a tournament format with this first set of games being played at one site in Jeddah. There are not as many foreign players per team this time, but that led to some huge individual statlines. Taylor Jones started that with 45 points in a loss after Sara Dickey scored 35 points for the opposition. She followed it up with another 30 points in a loss that saw Delicia Washington score 30 points too. Her weekend ended with the greatest effort as she had 69 points and 21 rebounds in a win that saw Ksenia Korobkova score 40 points for the opposition. Washington also had a 20 rebound effort while Gabrielle Cooper had a 21 rebound effort and a 21 point, 18 rebound, 10 steal triple-double. Kwanza Murray got into the scoring act with games of 31, 51, and 42 points.
Americas
Chanares is the only undefeated team left in Argentina after Quimsa was handed their first loss in the North. Obras had been undefeated in the South, but lost their first game earlier in the week.
The week in Mexico started with a rare Tuesday-Wednesday series that saw Puebla’s strong debut continue with a sweep of Mineras, which had the bye in the first weekend. The other series was on a Saturday-Sunday schedule and Toritas needed overtime, but eventually got the split with Dragonas.
Around Europe
Ja Harvey had a 16 point, 10 rebound, 12 assist triple-double in a battle of Albanian teams in their unified competition with Kosovo. Audrey Jennings had 32 points to help secure a win in Kosovo after Ky’Leo Worriels had 33 points in the loss. Bernada Rreshpja got 10 steals in Albania.
Zorana Radonjic had a 15 point, 10 rebound, 10 assist triple-double in the Adriatic, which saw winless Orlovi withdraw from the competition. Ziva Misjak Cujnik had a 14 point, 11 rebound, 12 assist triple-double in their second division. Zutorya Cook followed a 37 point, 10 rebound, 10 steal triple-double with a 31 point game in Montenegro. Nikolina Ilic had a 43 point game and Dashanti Miller had a 30 point, 23 rebound effort. Almedina Ahmic had 23 rebounds in the Bosnian league. Sigi Koizar had 10 steals in Austria.
The championship game in Switzerland’s cup was fantastic with Fribourg prevailing thanks to 31 points from Koi Love and 30 points from Nia Clouden as Laure Margot had 30 points from Laure Margot. Sheffield Hatters defeated Caledonia Gladiators to win one of the British cups. The cup was contested in Cyprus this weekend with Zaay Green recording an 18 point, 10 rebound, 11 assist triple-double to help AEL win the championship over ETHA Engomis having watched Vanda Kristlova grab 20 rebounds against them in the semifinals.
Cup games in Portugal included a 31 point game from Taris Thornton. In the second division, Hannah Pratt had 23 rebounds in an overtime loss while Charity Gallegos had a 10 point, 11 rebound, 10 assist triple-double. Olivia Wikstrom had 20 rebounds to start cup play in Malta. The double round-robin finished in Israel and included a 41 point game from Stephanie Watts and a 34 point game from Sparkle Taylor. The second phase then started and Evina Westbrook had 32 points.
Chase for Promotion
A busy week in Ukraine’s second division included 22 and 21 rebound games from Viktoriya Rozhkova, a 32 point game from Anastasiia Borovska, and a 34 point game from Kateryna Shtyk. League play resumed in Turkey’s second division and Dre’Una Edwards led her team again, this time with 31 points. The regular season ended in Romania’s second division as Mikyla Tolivert had a 34 point game and young Andreea Elisabeta Socaci grabbed 20 rebounds in a game. Monika Doksaite had 31 points in a loss in Lithuania’s second division. Meriem Nesraoui had 34 points to secure an overtime win in Italy’s second division as Precious Johnson had 24 rebounds in the loss. Antonia Peresson recorded a 15 point, 14 rebound, 10 assist triple-double and Carla Bremaud had a 30 point game. Emese Vida grabbed 20 rebounds in Iceland’s second division. Maja Manten had 20 rebounds in Germany’s second division. Julie Tetart had another 21 rebounds in France’s second division.
Notable Individual Performances
Zippy Broughton had a 33 point game in Sweden. Ana Ivan had 30 points in a game in Romania while Patricia Harangus scored 24 points in a win that saw her surpass Brasov’s 19 point total herself as her teammate Reagan Bass scored 20 points. Rebecca Demeke had 30 and 34 point games in Norway, the latter coming in an overtime win, while Mari Stewart had a 31 point game. Svetlana Trocina had 35 points in the return to play in Moldova. Marta Hermida’s scoring run in Iceland continued with another 34 points and Jada Guinn recorded a 24 point, 14 rebound, 10 assist triple-double. Molly Kaiser had 30 points and Amandine Toi had 31 points. Isis Beh had a 30 point game in Greece.
