Weekly Report #40

Asia

There were two series in Kazakhstan this week. Astana got another win on Tuesday with 32 points from Ganna Rulyova, but were handed their first loss by Barsy Atyrau on Wednesday. Ertis swept Caspiy in a Saturday-Sunday series.

After a long break that included holidays, the league resumed in Taiwan this week with another pod of games. Cathay Life won all three games, while Taipower was winless, and Chunghwa Telecom took the second spot ahead of Taiyuan Textile.

Americas

The rest of the schedule in Mexico was accelerated with the loss of a team so there was a rare midweek series between the top two teams on Tuesday and Wednesday. Mieleras got the overwhelming margin in a victory to start, but Mineras bounced back the next night to earn the split. The weekend series marked the end of the regular season. Mineras picked up two easy wins over Toritas while Mieleras withstood two big games from Yayma Boulet, including a 36 point effort, to finish a sweep of Dragonas.

The other national league in Mexico started this week as it is the newer competition, but has the more internationally recognized names on their eight teams. Two series were on a Thursday-Friday schedule, starting with Tamaulipas winning the opener easily, but needing to battle back to finish a sweep of Leon. Cancun had it much easier in their sweep of San Luis Potosi. Aguascalientes swept Chihuahua in a Friday-Saturday series. Monterrey swept Irapuato in a Saturday-Sunday series.

There were more games in Brazil this week, starting with Cerrado’s win over Uninassau on Thursday. On Friday, Araraquara managed to grind out a win at Maringa while Sampaio had a much easier time with Salvador. Jayla Crawford scored 33 points on Sunday, but Mesquita lost to Campinas.

It was the start of the season this week in El Salvador as Salvadorenas won at San Salvador on Friday. Yenifer Jimenez recorded a 23 point, 16 rebound, 12 assist triple-double in an easy Monsenor Romero win over Ahuachapan. Rachel Contreras had 21 rebounds in Metapan’s win over Santa Tecla. Sunday also included Vanessa Hernandez sealing Santa Ana’s win over Capitalinas with 12 steals.

North West Tasmania

Most of this round was played on Friday, including Ava McDonald scoring 31 points in Penguin’s win over Ulverstone. Rhonda Price grabbed 23 rebounds, but Smithton lost to Wynyard. Latrobe defeated Devonport in the other game. On Saturday, Sharna Thompson had 32 points and 22 rebounds to secure Somerset’s win over Burnie.

Around Europe

Most of Europe was busy with the national team break, but with neither Albania nor Kosovo participating, the competition featuring teams from both countries finished their double round-robin with Peja and Bashkimi finishing ahead of the representatives from Albania. A double-round week in Kosovo included a 36 point game from Skylar Treadwell and a 30 point game from Enisa Kamerolli. Laila Fair had 21 rebounds in Albania. In Malta, Hailey McLeod had 37 points and Steffi De Martino had 31 points.

Chase for Promotion

Some of the lower divisions continued play, including Ukraine’s second division, where Anastasiia Borovska had a 42 point game. Marija Ristic had 30 points in Serbia’s second division. Anysa Jordan had 34 points as the playoffs in Romania’s second division continued. In Portugal’s second division, Haily Weaver had 33 points in an overtime win and Taylor Linzie had 26 rebounds. Aiste Svegzdaite had a 32 point game in Lithuania’s second division and Laurita Jurciute had a 30 point game. In Iceland’s second division, Jada Smith had a 30 point game, Jessica Tomasetti had a 40 point game, and Leilani Kapinush had a 30 point game. In Germany’s second division, Jarla Muller had 31 points and Cecelia Collins had 33 points and 27 rebounds.
