Weekly Report #55

Lebanon

The finals concluded this week in Lebanon with the teams splitting the first two games. Morgan Jones had 32 points on Tuesday to give Riyadi the lead, leaving Homenetmen facing elimination. They continued the road winners trend on Thursday when Alexis Prince scored 41 points in their victory. Saturday’s deciding game went to overtime as she had 35 points for the first home win by either team, giving Homenetmen the championship win.

Americas

The quarterfinals continued in Brazil on Monday as Sampaio finished a sweep with an easy win over Maringa. It was Cerrado’s turn to complete a sweep on Tuesday when they defeated Santo Andre. Campinas was staring at elimination at halftime on Thursday, but used a big fourth quarter to defeat Mesquita. That set up a deciding game on Saturday that Campinas won easily, ending the upset bid from Mesquita.

One quarterfinal series in Chile needed a deciding game that was played on Wednesday. Puente Alto got the road win at Gimnastico for the lone seeding upset of the round. On the other side of the bracket, Sportiva Italiana finished a sweep of the University of Concepcion in the semifinals on Friday. Colegio Los Leones de Quilpue had a long wait for their opponent, but returned to action with a win over Puente Alto on Friday.

Australia

All conferences in NBL1 were in action, including the South featuring big scoring games as Jordan Vasquez had 33 points in a Geelong loss and Maddi Utti had 31 points in a Waverley Falcons loss. An overtime thriller had Tess Heal scoring 30 points to secure the Keilor Thunder win as Honey Kaur had 32 points in the Ringwood Hawks loss. Rachel Antoniadou ended the week with 38 points in a win for the Nunawading Spectres as Carla Pitman recorded a 12 point, 11 rebound, 10 assist triple-double in the loss for the Mt. Gambier Pioneers.

Emily Kiser had a monster 33 point, 15 rebound, 14 assist triple-double in the North conference in a win for the Rockhampton Cyclones. Hayley McDowell-White had the highest scoring game with 38 points for the Southern Districts Spartans. Georgia Woolley finished the weekend with 30 points in a North Gold Coast Seahawks loss.

Makenna Marisa had the highest scoring game in the West conference with 32 points in a Perry Lakes Hawks loss. It was a double-round weekend in the Conference with not too many big individual statlines.

Shyla Heal had a 40 point game for the Bankstown Bruins in the East conference, but they lost to the Norths Bears, which got 30 points from Issy Morgan. Triple-doubles were a story as Callie Bourne had 17 points, 17 rebounds, and 11 assists for the Canberra Nationals. Last-Tear Poa had 13 points, 12 rebounds, and 12 assists for the Albury Wodonga Bandits. Seehia Ridard had another 34 points for the Inner West Bulls, but they lost as Chantel Horvat had 39 points for the Sydney Comets.

Emma Pearce had the highest-scoring game in the top division with 30 points for the Sherbrooke Suns. Katherine Valle had 21 rebounds in a game for the McKinnon Cougars. Sharna Ayres had 31 points in a loss for the Whittlesea Pacers in the middle division.

The two games that needed to be finished from the previous rounds in North West Tasmania concluded on Tuesday. Ellie Collins had 30 points to lead Penguin to a win over Burnie. Devonport finished up a win over Smithton. This round was played on Friday with only a couple more rounds in the regular season. The top two teams met with Somerset getting a win over Burnie. Latrobe sits behind them after a win over Devonport. That result meant that Penguin pulled into a tie for the last playoff spot with a win over Ulverstone after another 32 points from Collins. Ella Lee had 31 points as Smithton looked to finish strong with Wynyard getting 20 rebounds from Kiara Armstrong while staying stranded at the bottom of the standings.
