Group A
Play on Saturday started in this group as Iyana Martin and Spain were looking to build on the momentum from their opener. Mali had other ideas as they were looking to record a historic result, getting an early lead and then seizing it back after halftime for the massive 82-73 win. The other game was a contrast in size and styles with Germany knowing that they would need a better start in this game. Japan got closer by halftime, but fell behind again and lost 74-58 as their shooting was as cold on the day as it was hot the day before. The teams will know that wins on Monday will clinch their spots in the next round while the third team will be determined by the head-to-head results between the teams that lose. Germany plays Mali and Japan plays Spain.

Group B
The two teams that had lost their openers played first in this group looking to stay in the picture. Hungary took the lead pretty early and started building it up right away. They still looked comfortable in the second half, but Nigeria did make one final push late before falling short 71-67. That result meant that France could win the group with a victory to close the day. South Korea’s offense did not slow down from the previous day early in this game and they had the lead after the first quarter. France did clamp down on defense and their offense continued to be strong as well, giving them the 95-69 win and the top spot in the group. Nigeria was eliminated after that result and Hungary and South Korea face each other having qualified already, but not knowing who their potential opponents would be based on their bracket placement.

The first game on Sunday was in this group and Australia ended up controlling most of the game. Sevgi Uzun paced Turkey, but Ezi Magbegor led the way for Australia in their 87-71 win. Belgium never trailed in the next game, but they also were never able to get out to a very comfortable lead as Imani McGee-Stafford kept Puerto Rico close before losing 76-64. Belgium and Australia qualified for the knockout rounds and will play for the top spot in the group and the automatic berth in the quarterfinals. Puerto Rico and Turkey will play for the other spot in this group to avoid elimination.

The two teams that lost their openers met in the first game in this group. Czechia did well in the first half and took the lead. They kept it well into the second half even as Han Xu and China fought back, getting the game to overtime and prevailing 74-70. This group closed the day with another close game as Italy looked to pull the massive upset despite a rough start. They fought back and had a lead multiple times in the second half, but in a defensive struggle, the United States held on to the 55-52 win, giving them the spot in the quarterfinals from this group. Czechia was eliminated as a result while Italy and China will play to determine bracket placement with the rest of the bracket being set before they close group play.
